We're located in Western North Carolina, in the beautiful South Toe Valley, and at the base of Mount Mitchell, highest peak in the eastern US. We're about half way between Burnsville and Marion on NC80 and just 2 miles off the gorgeous Blue Ridge Parkway at mile post 344. Within an hours drive are Blowing Rock, Little Switzerland, Marion, Burnsville, Micaville, Celo, Linnville, Linnville Gorge and falls, Weaverville, Old Fort, Black Mountain, and of course, Asheville, NC and the wonderful Biltmore Estate. Its about 70 minutes drive to the Asheville Airport, 2 1/2 hours to Charlotte, and 3 hours to Knoxville, TN. We're about 1 1/4 hours to the Tri-cities airport at Bristol/Johnson City TN.
The South Toe Valley is surrounded by tens of thousands of acres of the Pisgah National Forest on many sides, the Blue Ridge Parkway on the south, and Mount Mitchell State Park is only about 2 miles (as the crow flies, 1/2 hour by road). As a result, almost every property in the valley is less than 1/4 mile from national forest lands, or other public lands. Through the center runs the pristine waters of the South Toe River, which has its sources high on the slopes of Mount Mitchell. You'll find terrific trout fishing --- from the headwaters in Pisgah National Forest with its native brook trout which may be taken only on a fly, to the Celo area where it broadens into a major river with tubing, canoeing, rafting and wonderful summer swimming holes. One of our favorite locations to enjoy these activities is at the Carolina Hemlocks Regional Recreation area operated by the Pisgah National Forest. It offers camping, RV hookups, and is only about 2 miles from our office, and the Mount Mitchell Golf Course.
The center of activities here in the Mount Mitchell Lands community, is the Mount Mitchell Golf Course, which is one of the premier mountain courses in Western North Carolina. Not only is it scenic, meandering along the South Toe River and with towering views of Mount Mitchell, its also one of the most playable, while still one of the most challenging courses you'll find. What I love about the course, is that you don't get penalized for doing something right. The Asheville Citizen Times readers voted it No. #1 public course in the region, and Golf Digest rated it 4 1/2 stars.
Surrounding the Mount Mitchell Golf Course are four or five related communities all with a common history, part of the original Mount Mitchell Lands that sprang up with the development of the course in 1975. Although its been in development a long time, there are still a couple nice lots still on the market, and plenty of nice homes to choose from. If you like log homes, or long range view chalets, or river front cottages, we've got all that. Most properties here have great views of the Black Mountains.
In 2007, I was the leading realtor in the valley, selling nearly $4,000,000 mostly vacation homes in the area, either representing the buyers, or the sellers.
