Mt Mitchell Golf Course & Vacinity
The Mt Mitchell Golf Course is located at the southern end of the South Toe Valley up against the Blue Ridge Parkway. To the West is the Black Mountain Range which includes Mt Mitchell, and the entire valley is surrounded by Pisgah National Forest in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
The Mount Mitchell Golf Club offers a variety of challenges to the visiting golfer. The course is a four and one half star rating by Golf Digest's "Places to Play." North Carolina Magazine ranked Mount Mitchell in the top ten public courses in the state, and consistently voted number ONE in the region by readers of the Asheville Citizen Times. It features bent grass from tee to green, is virtually flat, has a pristine river flowing through it and awesome views on every shot. Just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, one hour from Asheville, Mount Mitchell Golf Club remains a favorite golfers' haven.
The golf course itself has a large pro-shop, a wonderful restuarant, snack bar, and pub.
The view at left taken from townhouse #87 which is FOR SALE. It is looking out over the 18th fairway. The view at right is from a home also FOR SALE in "Sanctuary", and looks down on the 12th or 13th fairway as it loops through the valley following the South Toe River.
Running through the center of the valley is the South Toe River, one of the finest trout streams in the eastern US. Its pristine waters originate high up the slopes of Mt Mitchell. The photo below (left) is taken from one of my listed properties, more than 5 acres surrounded by conservation land, and about a thousand feet of frontage shown in the photo. The photo on the right is taken at the Carolina Hemlock Recreation Park (operated by the Pisgah National Forest).
Located off of NC 80 and the Blue Ridge Parkway near Burnsville, North Carolina, is entrance to the Mt Mitchell State Park. It includes the peak of Mount Mitchell, the highest peak east of the Mississippi River. From the parking lot you can take a short hike to the summit which includes an observation tower and the grave of Elisha Mitchell, the professor who first noted the mountain's height. The old observation tower was torn down in Early October 2006. The trail leading to the summit has been paved, and a new observation platform was constructed and opened to the public in January 2009. The summit also features an exhibit hall with information about the mountain's natural, cultural and historical heritage.
In addition to Mount Mitchell itself, the park encompasses several other peaks which top out at over 6000' in elevation, including Mount Hallback, Mount Craig (just 37 feet (11 m) shy of Mount Mitchell in Elevation and the second highest peak east of the Mississippi River), Big Tom and Balsam Cone. Trails lead to all these summits save Mount Hallback, and their exploration takes visitors away from the crowds on Mount Mitchell but to places similarly spectacular. About 8 miles (13 km) of trails exist within the park in all.
Another popular destination reachable by trail within the park is Camp Alice, at an elevation of 5800' south of the summit of Mount Mitchell. This historic site is the location of a logging and, later, Civilian Conservation Corps tourist camp at the terminus of the old Mount Mitchell toll road. Lower Creek flows across the main trail at this point and it is one of the highest elevation perennial streams in the Appalachians, flowing through the Spruce-Fir forest. Openings here in the forest surrounded by evergreens resemble such openings near treeline in higher mountain ranges.
The view below is from one of my listings, a nice townhome looking south overlooking the 17th green. The photo is taken from the living room of this townhome. Ask me which one!!

THANKS FOR VISITING MY SITE!! I LOVE SHARING THIS WONDERFUL HIDDEN VALLEY.
A PARTING PHOTO OF "ROARING FORK" AND "SET ROCK" FALLS. ROARING FORK IS ABOUT ONE MILE FROM THE GOLF COURSE, AND SET ROCK ABOUT TWO MILES. YOU CAN DRIVE TO WITHIN 1/2 MILE OF EACH, AND THE WALK TO THE FALLS ARE BOTH PRETTY LEVEL.
Presented by David Chandler, broker associate with June Jerome Realty. Located just off the Blue Ridge parkway in North Carolina Mountains at mile marker 344. This is about half way between Asheville and Blowing rock, and includes the communities of Celo, Burnsville, Mt Mitchell Golf and Lands, and Little Switzerland. David is the #1 buyer agent in the valley, bringing in more buyers than any other agent. Most agents will not tell you they are working exclusively for the seller until you're already in their car out looking at properties.
